QE2 and fireworks

One of the most recognisable ships ever built, the QE2 has been a British icon for the past 40 years. She is now retiring from service to become a hotel and exhibition centre in Dubai. The farewell in Southampton on 11 November was a spectacular affair with fireworks and a flotilla of vessels following her down Southampton water for the last time. Despite a grounding before dawn, causing a later than scheduled arrival, the one day turnaround was speedy and by evening she was gone - for good.
